2. Technology & Architecture

Originally an independent Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM)-compatible sidechain, Ronin completed a pivotal migration to an Ethereum Layer-2 rollup on May 12, 2026. This transition, executed via a hard fork, leverages Optimism's OP Stack for scalability and uses EigenDA for efficient data availability. The native RON token is central to network operations, used for gas fees and governance. A landmark tokenomics overhaul accompanied the L2 migration: annual token emissions were slashed by 89%, from about 45 million RON to 5 million, reducing inflation from over 20% to below 1%.
